How to Really Get Things Accomplished!

What’s the #1 obstacle when you are running an online business?

Distraction

When you have an online task you’re trying to complete, just stay focused. I know you’ve heard it before but I’ll repeat it again. Have you ever went online to look something up or had a simple task to do and went off on a tangent? I know I have. It usually happens when I’m searching for something and another idea pops into my head. I’ll just take a minute to check this out and get right back to what I was doing. A half hour later, I’m asking myself “now where was I”?

The web is a vast storehouse of everything you can think of and everything you’ve probably never thought of and it’s easy to get sidetracked.  This happens to everyone, not just you. It even happens to seasoned internet marketers. So what’s the solution to get the things done you need to do? Write them down.

It may seem kind of simple, but keep a small pad and pencil right there by the computer and write a short list before you even go online of what you need to do. This will keep you focused and get the task done. If, like me, something pops into your head just write it down and take care of it after the task at hand.

Procrastination

Don’t confuse distraction with procrastination. That’s a whole different animal. Procrastination usually happens with a big task you need to get accomplished.  A few months ago I had a huge business task I needed to get done and actually found myself an hour later cleaning out my computer and internet files and hadn’t even started the task. Now THAT’S procrastination!

For a larger job, you’ll need a tablet and not a pad! How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Before even beginning, jot down the steps you’re going to need to take to start on the project. Work a bit at a time and before you know it a good portion will be done.

The last large project I can remember I had to do was setting up this blog. So many things to consider, like installing the script on the server, the format, the audience, the sidebar, widgets, plugins and everything else I’d need. I actually put it off for weeks, setting it up in my head and doing the list. One bite at a time – and it started to take shape.

The Distraction -  Make a short list of what you need to do that day or that session and cross them off as completed.

The Elephant - Come up with that great idea, develop it, write down the steps, put each step into action, keep looking at the overall picture to make sure all the parts are fitting until it’s done.

These two simple things should help you get much more accomplished in a shorter amount of time.

Ever Thought About Running Your Own Internet Business?

What's the best online business for You?

People running successful businesses from home are just like you with one difference. They've opted to break out of the "worker" mold and into the "owner" mold. They've chosen to think outside the box and if you ask any of them, they are happier than if they were working for someone else. There are as many different niches for a business as there are people that run them.

You can even start an at home business in something you're familiar with such as an online data entry. Nothing says you have to leave home for this either – you can start a data entry job and stay home. When you sit down and think about it, the possibilities are endless.

If you want to keep within the structure of a company and complete "projects", take a look at freelance sites like Freelancer.com or if you're technically oriented, a company like eZdia.com. These companies let you upload your resume and complete a profile which lets prospective employers find you. Depending on your profile, experience and projects completed successfully, employers can hire you for their projects. They can leave a comment telling others how well you handled their project.

Be advised though that the competition for these projects are fierce and you can expect to run into a catch 22 when just starting out. Employers are looking for experienced people but it's difficult to get hired if you have no experience. It isn't impossible to get hired, but you should be aware of this before you go this route. After a few successful projects you're on your way. Remember also that employers want their project completed in a certain time frame. If something  comes up where you can't have the project done on time, let the employer know! These companies usually put a monetary amount from the employer into escrow and release it when a percent of the project is completed, and the total amount when finished.

If you're new, and want to conduct business completely on your own, try starting out with something like an affiliate business where you just have to promote someone else's  product (such as Click Bank) to create an income. Running an online business completely on your own is very rewarding and can be very profitable. An easy way to see how successful online marketers do this is simply find them by doing a search and subscribe to their newsletters. About 10 should do it. See how they structure their newsletter, what and how they advertise and especially how they write it. Does it make you want to click on the link they're advertising?

People are usually afraid to leave the comfort of a job and their take home pay and they are uncertain about making a mistake that can doom their new business. For each of these "problems" there is but one answer – learning. For the former, prepare yourself by finding out and learning what a successful business owner does, right down to how they pay themselves and pay their taxes and expenses. For the later, every successful business decision you make will build on your success, embolden you and make you more comfortable next time.

Additionally, how will you ever know all you can accomplish if you're locked into a certain job? You'll never know how many hats you can wear and how good you can do with each one. Running a home business does require dedication, determination and God given "smarts" to some degree. I've found the reasons people don't take the plunge and are afraid to start a business are many, but two come right to the forefront.

One thing is for sure. The possibilities to make an online income today are endless. You can keep your current job (if you're fortunate enough to still have one) and explore new income opportunities and even begin earning online to see if it's what you want to do. With today's technology, there's no good reason you need to commute anywhere except your home office if you don't want to.

You don't have to stay in a 9-5 just because of the job security (which is exactly WHY most people do) or the stark realization you may make a mistake starting an online business (if you're human you will make a mistake – it's NOT the end of the business). Most times people are so worried to try something new they never even attempt it. Know what? Life is too short to do something you don't like or are forced to do something by the time and location constraints someone else sets for you.

Traffic Generation – Part 1

The Juice for any  site, blog or anything else on the internet is traffic. If you have no traffic, you're going nowhere fast. Your beautiful  online creation is just a bunch of X's and O's on some server that no one will ever see.

There are two types of traffic, targeted and non-targeted.

Targeted  Traffic -  obviously the best kind for your site is generated by means of  writing articles, visiting blogs and forums in your niche and dropping a link back to your site. The search engines love this kind of traffic and will rank your site higher if you have relevant links coming back to your site that are in your niche.

Non Targeted  traffic – is generated  by  putting your link into traffic exchanges, making comments on blogs that aren’t in your niche, sending “blanket marketing" emails to everyone on a general list and the like just to get people stopping by. Non targeted traffic may make your hit counter spin but will do nothing for your wallet and making sales.

The quickest ways to get traffic are also the easiest. Non targeted traffic goes away as soon as they leave your site. Targeted  traffic  will cause some to bookmark your site or even ask for a link exchange, especially if your site content is good and related to theirs. This is the way you build long term relationships online and can have traffic coming back to your site years after the original work you did.

It will also lead to more sales, but ultimately what will make a person a customer is the old standby – treat them right and help them.

So what’s the best way to generate targeted traffic? Writing articles. Always has been, probably always will be.  It’s more work, but it’s also more productive. Here’s a tip I use that always works.

Use a signature (or sig) file at the end of each article. In the sig file goes a little bio about yourself along with what else?  A link back to your site. Whenever you write your articles your sig file automatically is inserted at the end. This will link back to your site to drive your targeted traffic.

What does it take to earn a living from home?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've been asked that question.
Before I give you the answer, let me give you some cold, hard facts.

Fully 95% of people that try to make a living from the internet fail. I'm not talking about  making an income, but a living. Why? Various reasons. What's the main one? They don't know how. Their heart is in the right place, they have the incentive and reasons – they just don't know what they're doing. It's no more complicated than that.

That's also why  these let's say, disreputable companies, can relieve so many people of their hard earned cash simply by promising to show them the bright burning path, but they always leave parts of the road map out. Just enough to keep you coming back. Believe me, I know. .

There's a reason why I put my post  "A concept to get almost anything accomplished" up early on. Hopefully you read it and it started you thinking.

The answer to the first question is actually two. Terror and Confidence.

Terror-being so afraid you may fail that you won't. You don't have the weekly paycheck coming in to rely on. You have to count on yourself completely. So it's very good to know what you're doing.

Confidence-in yourself to continue making a living with your business as it evolves and so do you and love what you do.

I was given a little nugget of information early on that I'd like to share: Treat it like a business, not a hobby. Simple, succinct and to the point.

I'm offering you a chance to learn how to start and run your own internet business in this post. I'll also tell you this is the course I took years ago and I still use today to find answers because it's constantly updated. When I took it, it was called the Insider Secrets Course.

The course is now called the Step by Step Guide to Selling Online. A short summary for this is on the Business and Product reviews page.

The reason I started this blog was to give people a way to make an informed decision . If you're a current reader, you know I don't sugar coat things and I come to the point quickly. You also know that I'll only share what I've personally used and can recommend as the best out there.

Let me be blunt: I don't care if you invest in everything I suggest on this blog or nothing at all..  I'm just giving you the truth about what works and what doesn't and you can make your own decisions. I feel something as important as learning how to start your business and change your future is pretty important. If you don't know what the hell you're doing, how can you possibly be successful ?

I'd like to ask a favor though. If you do take the course, please send me a testimonial with your link when your business is up and running. I'd like to post it here on the blog

Do the “dirty work” yourself

Let me ask you a question…

Are you the type of person that likes to delegate some of the more mundane, routine tasks of running your business to others?

Stuff like creating SQL databases, installing scripts to your server and the like? That's great, providing you know exactly how to do that stuff in the first place.

If it's been a while since you installed a script or created a new database, why not do it yourself next time – just to brush up. I know it's not as glamorous as some of the other aspects of running your online business, but it's necessary for you to know.

If you've NEVER had to do it or worse, PAID someone to do it for you why not learn how to do it yourself? I mean how will you know if someone else has done a good job for you, not to mention saving yourself the $25 or $35 bucks they charged for installation?

It's pretty easy to set up a new SQL database if you have C-Panel hosting, (99% of online marketers do)  just scoot down to "databases" section and use the database wizard to create it.

.
MARK YOUR USERNAME, PASSWORD and DATABASE NAME down and hit the option to have it emailed to you! This is info you don't want to forget

There's documentation and help your hosting provider should supply-most are pretty good about it.

If you're new and run into any problems, give me a shout. I'll give you a hand.

Making Money from Home isn’t as hard as it used to be

A Home Business: Should include a comfortable chair, your favorite computer and your Niche.

A Niche:  A home business based on what you'd truly love to do -whether you'd make money or not… a Passion.
Figure out what you love to do if you'll be paid for it or not. If you have that much passion for it, you're bound to be successful.

Start out with your passion- You'll always be successful.
Learn everything you possibly can. It's an investment in yourself.
    Don't procrastinate. It's self defeating.
    Learn from your mistakes.
    Never let anyone discourage you.

Do you have so much to do in a day you can't seem to get everything done? Try the "Pickle Jar" theory.

To plan your day, imagine a large empty pickle jar.
Take three or four large rocks and add them to the jar.
Now take a small handful of pebbles and add them in, jiggling it a bit to make them fit.
Next, add a handful of sand.
Now fill the remaining space in the jar with water.

There's a lot of stuff in your jar. But it's not just the objects, it's the order and volume of each item. If you were to put the water and sand in first, and then your pebbles, very few of the large rocks would fit. Or if you tried to put in 10 large rocks they'd break the jar.
Such is the case for planning your day.
Identify three or four high priority items that must get done (the rocks), plus a number of smaller, lower priority tasks such as emails, follow ups, etc. (the pebbles), as well as everyday routine stuff (the sand). And remember that your jar should contain room for family and personal time (the water). Source: AAA magazine-nov/dec issue

If you're new to a Home Business, try starting with an established company ( as an affiliate).
Face it. If you're not making money when you first start out, there's not much incentive for you to continue.

When you ready to move on, find your niche and create your own business. This is a very exiting time.

Start a Home Based Business in a niche you choose:
To find your niche – Go here first.

It's the Google keyword tool . Type in your keywords- something you'd really be good at: Please note – phrases are best as opposed to individual words. Type in the "captcha" letters and hit search.

Now, here's the secret
. When your results come up, go to the "choose columns to display" button, and switch it to "Average CPC" (costs per click).
This is what people are actually paying for their keywords.

Here's your data:
What to do with it?

Look at all the related keywords to your niche . Look at the estimated average CPC (costs per click) first. Anything over $1.00 is good – this is what advertisers are paying per keyword.
Look at the search volume. If there's lots of people searching what you typed in, it's probably a good niche and should be considered for your new home business.
Bookmark the keywords tool. You'll be coming back…

Now you're into research. Play with the "columns to display drop down" in the upper right hand corner. When you think you've found the phrases or keywords you want, just click "add" at the end of the column.
Google will add them to a list you can download later.

Save these keywords for your advertising.
Google Ad Words will give you a $100 credit as a new customer.

You'll need a good week or two of research before you even think of starting a business. Do your research first to make sure the niche you're thinking about will pay you – then build your site around it..

A good at home business to start is PLR or private label resell products, including plr ebooks and plr articles, free and for sale. Why would you give something away when you can sell it? Simple – for the exposure your business receives.

Take a peek at your successful competitors- what are they doing that you're not?

There's no limit on the ways you can make money or the businesses you can choose to own. You are only limited by your own imagination, drive and determination.

A concept to get almost anything accomplished

It's called learning.

The real reason why most people struggle or even fail when they start a business, any business, is they really aren't sure what they're doing. This is especially true of the on-line business. Because the Internet changes constantly, about every 8 or 9 months actually, and your advertising that worked in the past won't work now.

I'm a  home business owner. If I tried to use the same forms of marketing I did a few years ago (even a few months ago), I'd fall flat on my face. The Internet arena evolves and you must evolve with it. Think about it. A while back we started to put video and audio on websites. Now it's commonplace. Web 2.0 came about a while ago and now it's all the rage. We'll graduate to something else in the months ahead.

However while the methods have evolved, the principles have remained the same. In marketing, you still need  to GRAB  someone's attention  and be able to HOLD it through your entire message. So how long do you have to grab someone's attention?

About six seconds.  That's the amount of time a person will either stay with you or go skating away to another web page. This is where the fun comes in. This is also where the money comes in. If you can hold someone's attention for that initial six seconds and keep them reading, you can make good money at this online marketing game.

The principles are pretty simple. Know your "target market" (You won't sell a lot of ice to people living in the Arctic) and you must make the person reading your sales copy want to read it to the end and take the appropriate action.

This is the tricky part. You can swing the odds in your favor though by learning about your target market. Learn what they want and expect. Use the Google Adwords tool . It's invaluable.

Cater to them and learn the wonderful art of marketing. Read everything you can about how the ultra successful marketers do what they do. How? Subscribe to their newsletters and see how they write the wonderful emails and splash pages they do.This didn't happen by accident.  If you're successful at marketing a product, you'll convert sales of your own product or people will pay you good money if you can sell their product.

You can never learn too much and you can never put a price tag on an investment in yourself. Learn the art of marketing and believe in yourself and who knows, maybe you can sell ice to people living in the Arctic!

Tips for an online business

Seems Everyone today wants to start a business and work for themselves.

And why not?

The economy is still in the tank and there's a number of reasons why you'd like to start a business.

The key to success is to do something you love – whether you'd be paid for it or not.

If you love what you do, you'll become a success.
Please notice I said become.

Basically, here's the roadmap:

1. Determine what it is you love to do.

2. Apply this to the business you'd like to begin.

3. Find the quickest way from point A to B.

3. Rinse and repeat.

It's no more complicated than that. And this works for everything – especially an online business.

Here's a tip  I'll share with you right now for an online business.

Use every piece of software at your disposal. Whatever you can use to help you get the job done quicker or more efficiently, why not use it?

Google some of the business, design, email software available now to help you run a business and it's amazing. And there's more arriving every day.

Here's another tip: Never stop learning. Everything new you learn will make you more valuable.

Here‚s a trick I use: When you learn something new, write it down (or copy & paste)
into a journal on your computer. Keyword the journal entry –  so it's searchable.

You learned this once, you don't need to learn it again – but you will probably need to go back and reference it at a later time.

Think about it. If you learn one new thing every day, you'll know 30 new things by the end of each month, or 360 a year.

Let's get started…
