Non targeted traffic counts as "just a hit". Actually, there are some businesses that you can join that just count manual traffic. If this is the only intent, counting your "hits", then by all means go to the traffic exchanges and input your referral link and any banners they supply you and go to it. Make their counter spin and earn your money.
Targeted traffic is much more "niche specific" and will count for you moving up the ladder on Google and the other search engines. Now, I could give you a hundred niche specific sites here for traffic to your site. I won't now but I'll be putting the best on the sidebar in due time under the "EVER WONDER" title.
You can basically join a better traffic exchange like Traffic Swarm which offers where you'd like your ad or offer to be seen. You can narrow down the niche and get more credits by upgrading. Some of these traffic exchanges offer a very good "pay to play" residual and placement program. You can make a decent buck by referring people to their sites. But remember, you're always working for them and referring people to their site.
Something else I want to stress right here and now: If you can't afford to upgrade, don't do it. The offer will most likely be there tomorrow.
There's always the OTO (one time offer) especially when you first sign up for something. Sometimes it's really worth it and you really WON'T see it again. Sometimes, if you just say no, the price goes down on the 2nd or 3rd click.
What's the right thing to do? Use your gut instinct. If it smells like 2 day old fish, it could be. There's no right or wrong answer here. It's your call.
I'd suggest looking for a money back guarantee. That's the great thing about the internet. It's instantaneous. You can join something now and know in about a week if it's worth your time. If you order something to be shipped to you with a 30 day money back guarantee via the mail and you receive it on the 28th day, send it back, try for your refund. Oh well… It's like breaking something in the store.
Always seek out Targeted Traffic for your site. If you're not sure how to do this, I'll be posting another time about the absolute best way to EARN your traffic.
You have to do some work but it's SO worth it!
